What once started as a humble little restaurant has since expanded into a chain with multiple locations all across the state. Velvet Taco got their start here in the city of Dallas and has developed a huge cult following for their beloved tacos. Although the tacos here are a bit different in that they are more Americanized, they still pack a lot of flavor. You’ll find things like spicy chicken tikka which is crispy and creamy to others like the nashville hot tofu taco which is spicy and hot and more. With so many unique and interesting creations, you simply can’t go wrong with choosing this place.

El Come Taco
El Come Taco which was established around 2013, brings to the city of Dallas some truly delicious tacos. Here you can find them serving traditional tacos with a bit of a modern twist. They have quite a bit menu with many options for you to choose from. From their traditional menu, you can try meats like pork, beef, chicken, sirloin, brisket, tripe and more. Or for the more adventurous you can try their specialty menu which includes the Gringas taco which consists of pork, cheese, pineapple, cilantro and onions or even their torta del chavo which has ham, head cheese, muenster cheese, tomatoes, jalapenos, onions, beans and mayo.
P.S: I even heard they had some sort of grasshopper taco before but it isn’t on the menu anymore. Maybe it’ll come back soon?

Tacos La Banqueta
One of my most favorite places to go to and also one of the most popular taco spots in the city of Dallas is called Tacos La Banqueta. Here they specialize in serving truly authentic Mexican tacos. They have all your traditional favorites which includes pastor, chorizo, cabeza, pork, beef, tongue, tripe and more. You can even try their signature meat which is a braised cut of steak that is finished on the griddle which seals in the juices with a charred exterior.
Aside from that, they also serve breakfast tacos like chorizo and eggs, bacon and eggs, or even potato and eggs. But if you are trying to choose which ones to get, I would definitely suggest the traditional tacos as they simply can’t be beat.

Taqueria El Si Hay
Not too many people know about this place as it is a pretty quite hole in the wall shop, but you will be surprised once you try them out. For those that do know about this area, they’ll keep on coming back as the tacos are some of the best you’ll have ever tried. Although their menu isn’t really the biggest, what they do serve is quality. And that quality is all you’ll need to be able to enjoy some truly authentic tacos. You can choose from the likes of chicken, beef skirt, chorizo, beef tongue, beef cheek, beef steak or even pork as your meat options. Pair that up with a Mexican coke and all will be well.

Twisted Trompo is a nice little restaurant that serves up some really delicious and authentic Mexican Street Tacos. Here they make sure quality is the very best as they make everything from scratch which includes the tortillas and fillings. They even make sure their meats are marinated for about 24 hours before being slow roasted and hand carved at the time of order. Their menu isn’t the largest when compared to some other taco places, but it is still very good. You can find things like barbacoa, chicken, carnitas, trompo and more all waiting for you to choose from. Plus they even serve tequila here which is amazing as it pairs perfectly well with your tacos.

Once you try this place, you will soon realize that you can’t judge a book by its cover. Here they serve some of the best tasting tacos you’ll have ever tried. And for good reason too, as many people can attest to just how good this spot really is. Their menu isn’t the largest as it is actually pretty small, but you can still find a lot of your favorites like barbacoa, el pastor, picadillo and more. Just know that if you do come, this place is cash only, so make sure you have some cash on you.

Urban Taco is a somewhat dismissed taqueria here in the city of Dallas that offers up some really interesting takes on tacos from all across Mexico. Here they make all their tortillas fresh with nixtamalized masa (the Aztec method), and pairs really well with all of their fillings. Choose from things like the Al pastor which is filled with trompo al pastor pork, roasted pineapple, salsa verde cruda, onions & cilantro or the Tinga de Polla which is filled with chile braised chicken & potatoes, queso fresco, avocado lime crema and more. They even have a special taco that Texas Monthly named as one of the top 10 tacos in the state called the “Al Pastor A La Tuma”. Whatever the case may be, you really can’t go wrong with any of their offerings here.

Update: I have been informed that this place has recently closed down.
Tacos Mariachi is a hidden gem located in West Dallas. It has risen to fame for being on celebrity chef Guy Fieri’s Tv Show “Diners: Drive-ins and Dives”. People from all over line up at this place just waiting to get their hands on some delicious tacos. If you are a fan of the show, you might be interested to try the same thing as shown on TV which was the pulpo taco and includes grilled marinated octopus with asadero cheese and avocado. They also have many other weird and funky variations you could try as well. For instance, you can find things like smoked salmon, sauteed shrimp and more. Pair that up with a side of Mexican Street Corn and you’ll have a happy belly.

Tacodeli is an Austin based taco restaurant that was first opened up back in 1999. Years later, it has since expanded into Dallas and has quickly become a fan favorite among the locals. Even opening up two locations so far as the demand was just so high. Their menu is pretty big so you’ll have quite some options to choose from. But don’t let that deter you as even though they have a big menu, they do serve some really high quality foods. Here you can find all sorts of tacos with a traditional and modern twist. They even come with weird names that might surprise you. You’ll find things like “Frontera Fundido Sirloin” which is grilled sirloin, jack cheese glaze, sauteed pooblano-onion tajas and more. It’s a great place to visit and will definitely open your eyes to new and bold flavors of this taqueria.
