Do you have dreams of solo travels by yourself?

When I first decided that I wanted to go on some solo travels, I knew I had to tell my parents. It was really hard for me at first because at that time, I didn’t know how they felt of me traveling by myself. After all, I always traveled with them and under their care. I’m a klutz in real life and never been on my own before. So obviously me traveling to someplace else all by myself would be a huge shock.

It took me awhile to gather up the courage to tell them.

I went up to my parents and told them that I will be taking a month break from work and traveling to Asia.

I expected some yelling maybe even some head shakes.

However what happened was totally unexpected. My mom said “Sure, that sounds amazing!” while my dad said “Be careful and do some research”. It then followed up with my mom saying “You’re an adult now, you are able to take care of yourself and I have full faith that you will do just that.”

Well at least that’s how I remembered it going. This was a few years back. But anyways back to the point.

It went pretty well in my opinion. There was no hassle, no drama, no anger. they didn’t even try to talk me out of this idea. Instead, they gave me their full support.

I was fortunate enough to have parents who are trusting of me.

However I know that isn’t the case for some other parents. Some parents are more strict and would never let you try anything like this. Heck, not even your parents but your friends might not want you to do this either. So what do you do?

I know for a fact that there are a bunch of people who want to travel around the world by themselves, however they are held back from doing so because they might worry their friends or family.

That reaction is only natural. After all, your family and friends definitely cares deeply about you. They only want whats best for you. It’s good that they are concerned. I’d be worried if they weren’t.

So what happens if your friends and family don’t want you to go? What happens if they don’t support your trip? How do you deal with it? How do you handle their criticisms and concerns?

Here in this post, you will learn all the tips and advice you need on how to deal with family and friends who are unsupportive of you and make them change their minds.

Go Someplace Local First For Experience

If you have never traveled by yourself before, it can definitely be a daunting task. Since you have no experience doing this type of travel before, it’s only natural for your family or friends to be worried about you. So instead, how about a compromise. Instead of traveling to a new country somewhere far away, why not travel somewhere local in your country. You’re still traveling by yourself only not as far. It’ll teach you many of the skills and things you will need when traveling someplace else. It’ll also give you the experience you desire and will show your family and friends that you are indeed capable of traveling by yourself.

Do Some Research

If you are thinking about traveling abroad, one thing you must do is research, research and more research. You want to be able to get down every last detail about where you are going, what things you’ll be doing, what dangerous places to avoid, etc. You want to have a full blown itinerary made out. This is because your family and friends will definitely have some concerns and questions about your trip, and you want to be able to answer any and all questions that they might have. Show them that you have dedicated a lot of time to this and have thoroughly researched everything there is about the place you are wanting to go to.

This way it can ease off any concerns or worries that they may have. It’ll also show them you are extremely prepared and and passionate about this trip.

Show Them Statistics

Solo travels is one of the hottest new trends these days. With thousands if not millions of people traveling around all the time. A simple google search will yield tons of reviews and reports about people traveling by themselves.

If your family or friends are worried that you shouldn’t travel by yourself for reasons like: it isn’t safe, you’ll get lost, you never traveled before, do not worry. Show them the countless amounts of reports and reviews out there of people traveling by themselves and being perfectly fine.

I mean lets face it, you are totally able to care for yourself on your own. You made it this far in life already. Traveling to a different country and handling yourself is no different. After all, with technology being so advanced these days, you can find almost anything you need online to help you out during your travels.

Always Be In Contact

Often times the majority of the reasons why family or friends don’t want you to go on some solo travels is the fact that they can’t get in touch with you. They think you’re going to some remote land where they’ll probably never see or hear from you again.

Now although that may be the case for some people. You need to understand that we live in a world where technology is everywhere nowadays. It is extremely simple to get in touch with anybody you want. Most places around the world have Wi-Fi in which you can use to get onto the internet. Not only that but you can also pick up a local SIM card for cheap to use your phone.

There are also many applications you can use to get in touch with your family or friends like Facebook, Skype, Line, etc.

The point is, you need to tell your family and friends that there is nothing to worry about. There are loads of ways for you to keep in touch with them and have them updated on what you are doing.

It’s About You

Having the idea to travel around the world all by yourself can be pretty amazing and fun. However one downside to it is when you don’t have the support of your friends or family. This can be pretty depressing. However if you are really dead set on wanting to travel, sometimes you just have to do it.

There are always going to be people who either agree or disagree with the choices you make. It’s up to you to decide on how you want to handle that situation.

I found out that when people tend to disagree with my beliefs or ideas, it’s probably because they don’t understand where i’m getting at. Most people live their lives like machines. Constantly doing the same things everyday, not trying anything new or changing up their lives. This means that they don’t really have an understanding of how other things work. So sometimes you might have to ignore them and just do what you want.

Although having family or friends who worry about you, isn’t really a bad thing. It means that there are people in this world who truly care for you and wants what is best for you.

But if you really want to change their views, just go out and do it. Go travel some place abroad all by yourself. Show them that you have what it takes to be on your own. Having amazing adventures and seeing the world at its finest. Eventually your family and friends will change their opinions and start to be more supportive of your trips.

Sometimes you just have to follow your heart no matter what anyone says.
