Traveling Resources

Now listed below are some helpful resources for you all to use when traveling around the world. These are all resources that I Personally have used and personally believe in. So you can rest assured that these will all work for you. I am constantly on the lookout for (more or better) resources for all of you to use so please check back occasionally for updates on this page.

Flight Planning/Airfare

Google Flights is one of the best search engines around to look for available flights. It lets you pick your departure airport and destination airport to see all the cheapest flights that you can buy. It is very convenient and easy to use. I highly recommend this search engine to book your flights.

Momondo is one of my favorite search engines for flying around. They are able to somehow always find airlines that offer the best deals around and lets you see which days are the cheapest to fly. This or Google flights should be your starting points in searching for a cheap flight.

This website searches many different airlines, including the many budget airlines that larger sites often skip out on. Usually i’ll use google or momondo first but i’ll also check in on this site too just so that I can price compare tickets.

Tour Guides

Intrepid Travels offers good small group tours that use expert guides while also leaving a smaller environmental footprint then other companies. If you decide to choose to go on a tour, this company is my go to company.

Vayable is a neat site as it allows you to experience different niches, offbeat, and interesting tours that the larger tour companies might not do. Example (going on a street art tour in LA). Also the groups tend to be on the smaller size which makes it a more intimaate experience.

This is an amazing walking tour companies. They offer walks about in-depth history, food, and other cultural tours through cities in the world, with a speciality in Europe. They offer small group tours which are curated so that you can get more than just a cursory glance, but rather a more informed and well versed experience.

Places to Stay

One of the most popular sites to find affordable places to stay at. The way Airbnb works is that it helps connect you with homeowners who are willing to rent out their house/apartment for a certain fee each day. Most of the time it is a lot cheaper than hotels and you are able to pick from a variety of areas to stay in. It helps to bring you a sense of comfort from home.

Priceline is a popular site used by many travelers around the world to find the cheapest hotel deals around. Often times you are able to find great rates that are much lower than anywhere else.

Booking.com is another great source for finding places to stay at. The way it works is that the site is a travel booking aggregator, so it finds you the best deals from all over the web. It offers you the ability to book at hotels, or homes and apartments. It is really simple to use and has a no money down policy.

Expedia is another travel website that works like a travel fare aggregator and travel search engine. It is one of the biggest travel sites in the world to find great deals on traveling. They have everything from flight tickets, hotel bookings, car rentals, cruises, and even homes/apartment rentals you can use.

Couchsurfing is a neat website as it allows you to stay on other people’s couches or spare rooms for free. It’s an ideal way to save some money when traaveling while also meeting locals who can tell you much about the city than you will ever find out in a hostel/hotel. I have used this many times and can guarentee it’s amazingness.

Transportation

Uber is one of the most famous ridesharing company around the world. It lets local drivers earn money by driving you around to places. All you do is simply select your starting point and destination, and an Uber driver should be on their way to pick you up. Although do note that this can be a costly option if you are going to use it to travel far distances.

Lyft is a very popular ridesharing app. It is one of the most popular ridesharing apps to use here down in America. It works very similar to Uber where you can request a local driver to drive you from point A to point B. Do note that just like Uber, Lyft can also be pretty costly if you are riding to a far distance. So keep that in mind.

Rome 2 Rio is a fantastic website to use. It helps you plan out your travel such as distance to destination and even directions on how to get there. All you have to do is enter your starting point and end point and let the site do the rest for you. It gives you many options such as bus travel, car travel, plane travel and others as well. Definitely recommend this site to use for your trip planning.

If you are a fan of cruises, then this is the site for you. This company searches the web for the cheapest cruises on the internet. Now it may not be your typical cruising website but a good deal is a good deal. This website is especially great at repositioning cruises across oceans.

Just like Uber and Lyft, Blablacar is also aridesharing app. It lets you share rides with local drivers by pitching in for gas. You can simply just ask for a seat, in which they approve and then off you go to your destination. It’s a cheap alternative and a much more interesting way to get from one destination to another.

Job Resources

For those of you looking for a great TEFL class, then check out 1-to-1. They do online courses which are cheaper than their competition and are widely recognized which will help you find a job. I definitely recommend them over any other compaany if you are looking to get a TEFL in order to teach English in other countries.

Worldpackers is a website that offers people who are traveling a chacne to find volunteer work experiences overseas. In adadition to hostels, they can also help you find experiences with NGOs, homestays and also eco-projects all over the world.

If you are trying to find some volunteering experiences when you travel around and want to support good organizations, then this website is the one for you. It compiles a list of ethical anad responsible local volunteering organizations that keep the money within the community and not in the hands of the big organizations. This is a tremendous resource for anyone wanting to volunteer in other countries.

Gear and Accessories

Now if you are living in the USA and wanting to travel around, then get T-Mobile. T-Mobile is an awesome company that gives their users contract-free plans (which start at around $50 a month) with international data and text messaging in over 100 countries. Plus all caalls while in those countries are only 20 cents a minute which is an absolute steal! I’ve been using them for many years and absolutely love using T-Mobile.

EatWith is a website that lets you eat home cooked meals with other locals. Locals will post listings for dinner parties and also specialty meals that you can sign up for. There is a fee as everybody sets their own price but it is a great way to do something unique and fun. While your eating you can make new friends and also ask them about the city and learn about their culture. All in all its a great way for a fun experience.

REI is a company thata theirs quality equipment. I have some gear that I’ve bought at REI that lasted me for many years and still going strong. Their products will last you for quite a long time. And because their quality is so great, they become my go to company for any traveling needs.
